Demographically Targeted Book Giving
We work with a couple of small local organizations serving populations underrepresented in the children’s book industry by providing books directly to their clients and tabling at events with books aimed at attendee’s children. Donations are suggested.
*HATCH Community in Oakland provides trained Doulas for expectant mothers under age 25. Many have come out of the Foster Care system and/or are emerging from traumatic backgrounds. Doulas work with clients throughout pregnancy, birth, and beyond, providing guidance and education - including the importance of early literacy. We provide Doula clients “Welcome Baby” book bags containing I Love You Like Sunshine/Te Adoro Como a un Sol and several infant cardboard books.
*Berkeley’s Black Infant Health runs expectant mother’s Empowerment groups periodically. We supply “Welcome Baby” book bags to attendees.
*We have tabled at Berkeley BAHIA events, tabling with Spanish-Bilingual books, and BAHIA’s Centro Vida offers Imagination Library registration cards to their Berkeley resident families.
*We do canvassing for Imagination Library in South and West Berkeley, offering books on the spot for children we encounter at the door.
For any event or program, we always provide Imagination Library registration cards for Berkeley resident clients (and look forward to adding Oakland and Richmond areas!).
